Purpose of Truth in Uncertainty

Actions speak louder than words.

But words, thought or shared, are important.  They are the precursors and guides to considered, goal-directed, effective and collaborative action or behaviour.

The words of Truth in Uncertainty (TiU) are intended to change our individual and collective behaviour and prompt actions that will move humanity toward a sustainable and hopeful future, quickly and with urgency^[1].

Presumptuous and unlikely?  Certainly.  TiU is desperately hopeful.

When a clearer and more viable alternative becomes evident these words will pass away as so many words have before them. 

'Hopeful'^[2], 'sustainable'^[3] and 'humanity'^[4] are the touchstone words of Truth in Uncertainty .  For any choice, individual or collective, no matter how seemingly insignificant, which option is the most hope-engendering and sustainability-enhancing for the greatest number of people, born and of the generations to come?  Take that option.

Beyond this broad behavioural prescription^[5] there are also specific, new and astonishing opportunities for even a very small group to sow the seeds of radical and rapid change.

How?

Technology^[6] now presents us with the opportunity to build a global and powerful civil society from the grass-roots up that by-passes our historical and increasingly obsolete^[7] institutional arrangements.

We have the opportunity to establish an organic system of law and order in our global village.  Harnessing and sharing information via the internet and global electronic databases would for example allow us to identify and track powerful individuals who are acting against humanity's sustainable and hopeful future.  Once we know who they are, we can get to know them and choose to influence them and act upon them effectively.  We can change the subliminal cost-benefit equation that underpins any individual decision in favour of choices that are fairer and more sustainable.  Violence is not required and neither is subterfuge^[8].  Acting openly, with courage and integrity is enough.

Accurate though perhaps inconvenient information applied  judiciously is a powerful motivator even for a commercial or political despot.  Formal intelligence agencies and criminal syndicates operate this way.  With today's technology so can global citizens, acting openly and in concert to an inclusive and positive global agenda.

Equally we can identify and rank products and services on their sustainability giving consumers the option to make informed buying choices.  We can deliver that information to them at the point of sale via their mobile phones.  We would take a global rather than local perspective, and place such products and services in their wider supply chain and corporate contexts.  Why, for example, would you use a particular household removal company that is controlled by a corporation that includes a cluster bomb manufacturer if there is an alternative household removal company that appears to have no equivalent deleterious associations?

The more valid and up-to-date the information that is held and made available quickly, cheaply and objectively, the more people will use the service, and the more influential such a global service will become.  Once a critical mass is reached use of the service will become a generalised moral and social imperative on all consumers.  Radical changes in production and consumption patterns will be achieved in months not decades.  Amoral corporations focused and rewarded on their quarterly projections, will be driven to act morally and sustainably or be driven out-of-business.

The key to the success of a global consumer information service and to the success of an organic global judicial system is integrity and full transparency.  The individuals, the values, and the belief system behind such initiatives need to be transparent, predictable, trusted, and beyond reproach.  Such initiatives cannot be for private pecuniary gain or for individual or tribal power^[9]. 

Truth in Uncertainty sets out one possible belief system to underpin global proactivism^[10] for the sustainable survival of hopeful humanity.
